Configure load balancing and high availability for remote fuzzy databases

A configured Remote Fuzzy Database can be used for different processing steps within your workflow. For example, a remove fuzzy database can be used within a Database Locator to retrieve address information during extraction. It can also be used in Validation for a Fuzzy Database Lookup to determine if the extracted data is correct.

In order to get optimal resource utilization and minimize the response time as well as to increase reliability of a Remote Fuzzy Database you can configure additional database hosts. By default, the system determines the best way how to retrieve the needed data from the configured hosts. If wanted, you can also determine for a host whether it is accessed only during extraction or validation.

Important If you select an additional database host you have to ensure that those database hosts are synchronized. This means that the configured fuzzy database for each host needs to be identical, otherwise the search results may differ from one host to another.

For example, to accelerate the search you can either add several Kofax Search and Matching Servers for the same Kofax Transformation Modules application such as Validation, or configure a specific Kofax Search and Matching Server for Kofax Transformation Modules - Serverprocessing that performs the extraction, such as a Database Locator, and another Kofax Search and Matching Server for search requests that are requested in Validation, such as a Fuzzy Database Lookup.

As database host you can either select a single stand-alone Search and Matching Server or a Load Balancer, that functions as a virtual computer that distributes the search request to a cluster of Search and Matching Server. See the KofaxSearch and Matching Server Getting Started Guide for more information.

Use the Advanced Properties to configure additional hosts and define the host processing type.

You can configure load balancing and high availability for remote fuzzy databases by following these steps:

  1. On the Project tab, in the Configuration group, select Project Settings Project Settings icon.
  2. Click the Databases tab to view the databases settings.
  3. Select the Remote Fuzzy Database to be modified.
  4. Click Properties. The Properties of Remote Fuzzy Database window is displayed.
  5. Click Advanced to open the Advanced Properties of Remote Fuzzy Database window.
  6. Click Add to add a new host to the Database Hosts list.
  7. Type the host name. Alternatively, you can search for all available servers within your local network by clicking the search button. Click the Down Arrow to select a server from the list.
  8. If needed, change the port number.

This option is set to 22000 by default.

  9. Optionally, select Extraction or Validation to define the processing type for the database host.
  10. Click OK to save your settings.
  11. Click OK to close the Properties of Remote Fuzzy Database window.
  12. Optionally, click OK to close the Project Settings window.
  13. Save the changes to your project.
