Configure Ethernet card readers

After the Ethernet Card Reader is connected to the printer, it needs to be configured in Web System Manager.

To configure the Ethernet Card Reader, do the following:

  1. In System Manager, select Devices > Terminals and click Discover Kofax Card Readers.
  2. In the Discover Kofax Card Reader(s) dialog box, do the following:
    1. Select the DCS (Device Control Server) Server that manages the Ethernet card readers.
    2. Enter the IP Discover address range, and click Discover.
  3. These options discover Ethernet Card Readers only.
Ethernet Card Readers can only resolve to a physical device’s IP address, not Hostname. It is recommended that the physical device be set to IP address when using Ethernet Card Readers.

  4. In the Discovering Kofax Card Readers dialog box, select the card readers you want to add and click Import.
  5. After import, Refresh the page to display the card readers in the Terminals list.
  6. Select the imported card reader and select Configure from the Select Action drop-down list..
  7. In the Configure Kofax Card Reader(s) dialog box, do the following:
    1. Enter a Name and Description for the card reader.
    2. The Type and Terminal type fields are auto-populated and cannot be edited.
    3. If the card reader is not physically connected to a printer, you can select another printer from the Assigned to another physical device drop-down list.
    4. In the Servers section, select the Primary server and its Port.
    5. To add a secondary DCS for high availability, select a different server from the Secondary server drop-down list along with its Port.
    6. In the Settings section, select how print jobs are released for users from the Release behavior drop-down list.
      • Select First is released to release only the first queued document after user login.
      • Select Release all at login to release only the first queued document after user login.
    7. Select a NIC (Network Interface Card) port mode and speed from the drop-down list. The Auto negotiation default enables devices to automatically communicate with each other to determine the optimal duplex mode and connection speed.
    8. Select the UDP introspection checkbox to use UPD communication instead of TCP
    9. In the IP Configuration section, if you want to use a static IP address instead of an IP address assigned from the DHCP server, Disable the DHCP client and enter the IP address, Gateway IP, Subnet mask and DNS server address.
    10. Click OK.
