Restoring a backup to a new machine

Before starting the restore process, make sure the following are available:

  • the backup to restore from and the corresponding password.
  • an installer that can install the same version of the product that was on the failed node that is being replaced.

To restore a backup to a new machine, do the following:

  1. Set up a new machine and give it the same name as the failed machine that is being replaced.
  2. Use InstallAssistant to install to the same path that was used on the failed machine that is being replaced.
  3. Run ConfigAssistant and configure the machine as the first machine in a new setup (do not point it at any existing nodes).
  4. In IIS Manager, stop the SecurityFrameworkService application pool.
  5. In the Services control panel, stop the Kofax DDB Cassandra Service.
  6. In the Windows task scheduler, disable the CassandraScheduledTaskRunner task.
  7. Open a command prompt, change directory to SecurityFrameworkService\BackupRestore and run the following command:
    NDI.SFSBackupRestore.Util.exe restore <backup-folder> <backup-password>.
    Where:
    • <backup-folder> is the full path to the folder containing the specific backup to be restored.
    • <backup-password> is the password that was used when configuring the daily backups on the failed machine that is being replaced.
If the folder %ProgramData%\Nuance\Schedule exists, delete its contents.
  8. In the Windows task scheduler re-enable and run the CassandraScheduledTaskRunner task.
After this task completes, the Kofax DDB Cassandra Service should be in the running state. If not, then retry the restore procedure.
  9. In IIS Manager, right-click on the NDI web site and select Edit Bindings from the menu.
    1. In the Site Bindings dialog, double-click the “https” line.
    2. In the Edit Site Bindings dialog, ensure that NDI website certificate is the selected SSL certificate.
  10. Start the SecurityFrameworkService application pool.
  11. Open a command prompt and run the following NDISecTool command to verify that the Security Framework Service is working:
    NDISecTool.exe -findservices -n SecurityFrameworkService.
