Use DRS to configure and deploy the Unified Client

Before you begin, you must complete the steps in Configure DRS.

DRS is installed as a ControlSuite component. Administrative access to the server is required. All steps outlined are performed from the server where the installation takes place. In Start menu under Administrative Tools go to Server Manager > Local Server > IE Enhanced Security Configuration > turn off Administrators.

  1. Open Device Registration System Configuration using one of the following methods:
    Choose from:
    • In a Web browser, enter https://<DRSServerIP>:9000/ where <DRSServerIP> is the IP address of the server where the DRS is installed.

    • Open DRS from the Launch Applications screen of the ControlAssistant.

  2. Create the application in DRS.
    1. Select the Applications tab.
    2. Click the green () button at the top of the left Applications pane. The Add Application function loads into the right pane.
    3. In the Name field (required), enter a name for the application. It is recommended to give it a descriptive name, for example "Brother Print and Scan".
    4. In the Application Type, select Brother Unified Client.
    5. In the Manual Device Configuration field, select False to use the Brother Mass Deployment Tool. It is highly recommended that you should use the Brother Mass Deployment Tool for installation. The minimum version of the tool is 2.11.
For more information about Brother Mass Deployment Tool and how to configure DRS and the device without it, refer to Manual Device Configuration.
    6. In the DWS Server Address field(s) (required), enter the address(es) of the DWS server(s) that the Brother Unified Client uses to communicate with Equitrac or AutoStore. The Brother Unified Client supports High Availability with up to three backup DWS servers so make sure you enter them (if any).
It is recommended that you use the fully qualified domain name of the server instead of the IP address. If IP address is used, further steps are required. For more information, refer to Application properties.
    7. In the Brother Mass Deployment Tool Location on DWS field (required), enter the location which is local to the DWS instances it is deployed with. This location must be the same on all DWS servers.

Here you have 3 options of server configuration:
      1. Use both Equitrac and AutoStore.
      2. Use Equitrac only.
      3. Use AutoStore only.
    8. For Capture Component, select AutoStore if you want to use AutoStore or None if you do not use AutoStore.
If AutoStore is selected, complete the following information:
      • Enter the host name or IP address for the AutoStore Server Address.

      • Enter the AutoStore Server Port number that the AutoStore server uses to communicate with the Unified Client for Brother. The default value is 3310.

      • For AutoStore Server Use TLS, select True or False. This setting should reflect your AutoStore server configuration. Verify it in the Preference tab of the Unified Client component. By default, the AutoStore setting "Use TLS" is OFF. If you leave it as OFF, you should select False in DRS.

    9. For Print Manager, select Equitrac if you want to use Equitrac or None if you do not use Equitrac. drop-down list (required), select Equitrac if you would like to manage printing and copying on device. The rest of the Add Application fields appear below.
If Equitrac is selected, complete the following information:
      • In the DCE Server Address field (required), enter the IP address used by the Equitrac Server.

DCE and DWS must have the same IP address.
      • If you have additional DCE servers for failover purposes, enter their IP addresses in the DCE Server #2 Addess, DCE Server #3 Address, and DCE Server #4 Address fields.

    10. Click the Save button () .
    • Leaving both Capture Component and Print Manager as None will make it unable to save the application.

    • If you plan to install Single-Function Printers (SFPs) that do not support the scan function, you must first create two separate applications:

      1. Equitrac-only environment that will be dedicated for Single-Function Printer (SFP) devices.
      2. ControlSuite environment (using both Equitrac and AutoStore) that will be dedicated for Multi-Function Printer (MFP) devices.
Registering SFP devices with server using AutoStore-only applications will fail.

  3. Add the device in DRS.
    1. Select the Devices tab.
    2. Click the green () button at the top left of the Devices pane. The Add Device function loads into the right pane.
    3. In the Name field (required), enter a name for the Brother device or device group that identifies it on the network.
    4. In the Address field (required), enter the IP address or the hostname of the device.
    5. Enter the Username and Password for the device.
    6. From the Application drop-down list (required), select the application you have created in the previous step. The rest of the Add Device fields appear.
    7. In the Application Name field (required), enter the name of the application you want.
The Application Name should have the maximum of 32 characters and will be updated to the Display Name of the menu in Solutions Application Entry on the device. This name will be shown on the device's Home Screen and can be renamed.
The rename process will override any dynamic localization on the end point through language localization. It means no matter what language is set for the device, the name will be displayed as configured in this Application Name field.
    8. In the Login Portal Message field, enter the message you want the device to display on the Logon screen. The message is limited to 32 characters.
    9. In the Device Type drop-down list (required), choose between Single-Function Printer (SFP) and Multi-Function Printer (MFP).
      • This will affect available workflow applications. When SFP is selected, only print-only functions can be supported and shown as workflows on the device. When MFP is selected, only functions supported by a print, copy scan and fax device can be used and shown as workflows on the device.

      • Registering SFP devices with servers using AutoStore only will fail. SFP devices should be registered with server using Equitrac.

    10. If the device being added uses application configured with Equitrac only or Equitrac and AutoStore, the Card Reader Model field appear. Select the model you want to use. Leaving this field empty means no card reader is configured on the device.
There are 3 main types of card reader that is available:
      • Kofax Micro Card Reader: Select this, you do not need to enter the Card Reader PID and Card Reader VID.
For Brother to work with Kofax USB Card Reader, the Kofax Card Reader must be configured to Keyboard Emulation mode.
      • Known Third-party Card Readers: This type includes Elatec and RFIDeas card reader models. Similarly, with known third-party card readers, the PID and VID are also not displayed.
      • Custom Third-party Card Readers: This type can be opted as Custom in the card reader model drop-down. Custom card readers may be configured, but support for them depends on their compatibility with Kofax card readers. In this case, the Card Reader PID and Card Reader VID fields appear and require you to enter the PID and VID of the Card Reader.
If a third-party card reader is used, a third-party card reader license is required.
    11. In the SNMP Version field, select SNMP V1/V2 if SNMP v1/v2c read-write access is configured for SNMP Mode of Operation on the device settings; select SNMP V3 if SNMPv3 read-write access and v1/v2c read-only access or SNMPv3 read-write access is configured for SNMP Mode of Operation on the device settings.
    12. After selecting the SNMP Version, the rest of the SNMP configurations appears:
      • If SNMP V1/V2 is selected:
