Scanning Settings

This topic describes scanning settings that are available for the Ricoh SOP component. These settings are configured on the General tab in the form settings. Select the Allow Changes check box next to any option to allow users to change the setting on the device console.

Setting Description
Scan Color Indicates whether to scan the original in color or black and white mode:
  • Auto Color — Auto color detection for scanning.
  • B & W Text / Photo — Scan text and photos in black and white.
  • B & W Photo — Scan photos in black and white.
  • B & W Text — Scan text in black and white.
  • B & W Text / Drawing — Scan text and line art or diagrams in black and white.
  • Gray Scale: Scan in gray scale, regardless of whether the original is in color or in black and white. Select this option to scan originals with many halftones.
  • Full Color Text/Photo: Scan text and photos in full color, regardless of whether the original is in color or in black.
  • Full Color Photo: Scan photos in full color, regardless of whether the original is in color or in black.
File Format Indicates the type of the file to save scanned data. The following file types are supported:
  • PDF — Save to PDF format.
  • JPEG — A file format widely used in digital cameras. Suitable for saving photo data. This type does not support the saving of multiple pages into one file.
  • Tiff — (Default) Specifies TIFF format. This type creates either a separate file for each page scanned or multiple pages, depending on the Multi Page setting.
Multi Page

Includes multiple pages in a single file.

Page Size

Choose the appropriate page size from this list.

The Ricoh device console only displays the page sizes that are supported by the MFP. If you select a page size here that is not supported by the MFP, the device will map your selection to one of the supported page sizes on the MFP.
Digital Signature Pdf

Applies a digital signature to a PDF file. This option may not show on the device console.

Digital signatures let you identify any unauthorized changes made to a document after it is signed.
High Compression Pdf

Applies maximum compression to PDF files. This option may not show on the device console.

Compression helps to make your PDF files smaller but may result in lower quality images.
PdfA

Uses PDF/A format, which is designed for long-term archiving of documents.

PDF/A is an ISO-standardized version of the Portable Document Format (PDF) specialized for the digital preservation of electronic documents. The "A" stands for "Archive". PDF/A differs from PDF by prohibiting features ill-suited to long-term archiving, such as font linking (as opposed to font embedding). The ISO requirements for PDF/A file viewers include color management guidelines, support for embedded fonts, and a user interface for reading embedded annotations.
Original Preview

Allows users to preview scanned documents before they are sent to the AutoStore workflow.

Compression Method Indicate the type of compression:
  • None — No compression results in the largest file sizes with the highest resolution.
  • Jpeg — Uses traditiona JPEG lossy compression for digital images.
  • Jpeg 2000 — Uses JPEG 2000 image wavelet-based compression. This allows different parts of images to be stored using different quality.
  • JBig2 — Used for bi-level images with both lossless and lossy compression.
  • MH — Modified Huffman coding based on a G3 one-dimensional compression scheme to encode black on white bitmap images.
  • MR — Modified READ is a lossless two-dimensional compression used only for bitonal (black and white) images.
  • MMR — Modified Modified READ is a lossless G4 compression used only for bitonal (black and white) images (typically used in Group 4 fax machines).
Compression Level Specifies compression level for files between Level1 and Level5. Higher levels create smaller file sizes but may result in less resolution.
Resolution Indicates the scanning resolution:
  • 100x100dpi — Select this option to scan the lowest resolution.
  • 150x150dpi — Select this option to scan a lower resolution.
  • 200x200dpi — Select this option to scan a standard original.
  • 300x300dpi — (Default) Select this option to scan a standard original with higher resolution.
  • 400x400dpi — Select this option to scan an original containing small characters and drawings.
  • 600x600dpi — Select this option to convert an original into a file of the maximum size. This option is available when scanning an original such as a full-color photo, which requires a fine level of image.
Original Orientation

Indicates the orientation of the original being scanned.

  • Readable — Scans from the left edge.
  • Unreadable — Scans from the top, orthogonally to the text.
Simplex/Duplex Indicates whether to scan one or both sides of the original.
  • 1 Sided — Scan one side of an original.
  • 2 Sided - Top to Top — For binding pages on the side.
  • 2 Sided - Top to Bottom — For binding pages on the top.
  • Spread — Scans pages in two-page spreads onto single sheets.
