DWS debug logs

Access the DWS logs from the DWS Web administrator page. Follow these tips for using the logs:

  • Make sure logs are enabled. We recommend to enable all logs so that issues on any device can be traced.

  • Create a snapshot as soon as you observe an issue. This way, you have a copy of the log even if you cannot recreate the issue. Use the "Limit Kofax log files" field to specify how many logs to retrieve. Set the field to -1 to get all logs, but because this can impact performance, it is recommended that you use this option during off-hours.

  • Make sure the logs cover the duration of the issue.

Do the following:

  1. In a Web browser, enter https://<DWSHostName>:8443 where DWSHostName is the host name or IP address of the DWS server.
  2. Enter the domain and a local DWS administrator name and password. Click OK.

Access to this web page is limited to the user running the service or a valid member of the administrators group for the computer running DWS.

  3. Click Logs.

Components connected through DWS are listed.

  4. If the component does not have logging enabled, click enable in the far right column.

You can enable logs for all components by clicking Enable all logs.

  5. Download the logs as follows:
    • To download a log for an individual component, click the name of the component to download the logs to your computer.

    • To download logs for all components, click Download Snapshot.

Complete the form with information about the logs and click Create.

  6. Extract the .zip file containing the logs and open log.html to view the information.
  7. To clear the log, click clear to the right of component's name.

You can enable logs for all components by clicking Clear all logs.

  8. To stop logging for this component, click disable in the far right column.

You can disable logs for all components by clicking Disable all logs.
