Features

The Unified Client for Brother supports the following features:

Authentication
Requires users to enter valid authentication information to unlock the Brother device functions. Users can enter their authentication data via the device panel, or by using a valid authentication card (when authentication cards are implemented).
Mobile authentication via Kofax Business Connect
The Unified Client can accept user authentication via the use of mobile devices with the Kofax Business Connect application. This functionality is only provided when Kofax Micro Card Readers are used. For more information, refer to Mobile - Business Connect.
Follow-You Printing®
After successful login at the device, users can access the virtual print queue to "pull" a print job to this device. Through the Follow-You screen on the Brother device, users can see a list of documents in the queue, then select, delete, or release documents for printing. On scan only devices, the Follow-You Printing workflow is hidden.
Card self-registration
Allows users to associate an unassigned card with their user credentials. Once associated, each time the user swipes the card, the system automatically recognizes the card and associated user.
Billing Code support
Users can charge their jobs to a particular code, and the Equitrac database tracks the characteristics of jobs changed to the code. Billing codes must be enabled on the Equitrac server.
Function Access Control
When configured on the Equitrac server, the user session can deny the logged-on users the ability to access and use the native Copy, Fax and Scan functions on the device. For more information, refer to Control Function Access.
Account Limits
Ensures that users have sufficient funds in the account to pay for print/copy jobs before the jobs are released from the queue. If the total cost of selected documents is more than the estimated available fund balance, the server will not release the print jobs.
Color Quota
When configured on the Equitrac server, the Unified Client will compare the user's output to the color quota balance and decide to disable the color function on the device or not. For more information, refer to Color Quotas.
Campus card support
When enabled on the Equitrac server, at the device, users can authorize themselves as valid campus card account holders, make copies, release jobs, and pay for these services in real time, directly from their campus card account.
Offline operation
In the event that Brother fails to connect to the Equitrac DCE service, you can configure Brother to continue the device lock down, allowing users to authenticate based on account information stored in local device cache. Brother gathers job data in local cache, and forwards the accounting details to the DCE service when it is back online.
Integration with third party applications
Brother tracks job details generated from supported third party applications. Currently, the third-party applications supported for scan are SharePoint and One Drive.
DWS Failover Capability
The Unified Client on the device will allow failover capability for connection to the server-based DWS service that will allow the device to switch to another online configured DWS service in the event of the original DWS going into an offline state. Any in-flight scan or print jobs or inputted meta-data when a failover occurs may not be preserved.
DCE Failover Capability
The Unified Client on the device when configured with Equitrac will allow the DWS service to switch over to another Equitrac DCE service in the event of the original DCE going into an offline state. This allows devices connected to DWS to remain live and facilitate logons, copy access and print release should a network outage occur that results in one of the multiple DCE services being unreachable.
FIPS 140-2 Compatible
The Unified Client supports the FIPS Advanced Encryption Standard encryption that is used on the AutoStore server.
