Create a Placeholder in a Microsoft Word document

Use this procedure to create a placeholder (such as a Date field) in a Microsoft Word document.

  1. Create a blank template.
  2. On the Insert list, select Quick Paths.
  3. Click Fields.
  4. On the Field Names list, select MergeField.
  5. In the box, enter a name (such as Date) for the field.
  6. Click OK.

    The placeholder for the field is created, such as <<Date>>. Create other placeholders, as required.
