Create a business rule

Create new business rules just as you create business process maps, except that, for a business rule you define the inputs and outputs. A business rule can only contain automatic activities.

Once a rule is created, you can save the rule in an unreleased (work in progress) state so that it can be modified later. However, you must release the business rule before using the rule in a process map or form.

  1. On the Home page, click Process Designer > Business Rule.

The new map is created and the Start node appears by default.

  2. Enter a unique name for the rule.
  3. Complete the properties for the rule. See Configure the properties of a process for more information.
  4. Create process variables and configure the variables as rule inputs and outputs. Set the order in which TotalAgility processes the input and output variables. See Create process variables for more information.
Note A business rule supports dynamic complex variables as input. These input variables can hold the data from a table field within a document for validation, for example, to create a running total for a column.
  5. Add activities, decision nodes and an end node.
  6. Click Save to save the rule.
  7. Click Release Save and Release to release the rule.
