Create and customize a skin

Define custom settings for a skin to override the default settings in the template at runtime. The skins created for a template always use the latest version of the template.

Before creating a skin, you must do the following:

  1. On the Home page, click Process Designer > Skin.
  2. In the Associated Template box, consume the template on which to create the skin.
  3. Consume the category in which to place the skin.
  4. Specify a Name and Description for the skin.
  5. Specify a timeframe (Active From and Active To) within which the skin should remain active.
Note The skin must be active at runtime or TotalAgility cannot invoke the skin.
  6. Select the required Thread Pool to associate with the skin. See Add a thread pool.
  7. To define a process owner for the skin, click Yes for Process Owner, and consume the required resource or group.
  8. Edit skin properties to override the template properties.
    • To change the expected cost, click Yes for Expected Cost and enter the cost.

    • To change the expected duration, click Yes for Expected Duration and enter or select the duration.

    • To change the SLA, click Yes for Service Level Agreement and specify the threshold.

    • To override the rules associated with a document type, on the Process modeling bar, click Document Set. The Document Set page opens. Click Yes for Override.

Note If you select to override, you can only modify the rules associated with each document type; you cannot add or delete any of the document types within the document set.

  9. Define rules based on which the skins are automatically selected at runtime. See Create a skin rule.
  10. Specify whether skins can override triggers or alerts defined for the template.
    1. Click the Triggers tab.
    2. For Override Triggers, click either option:
      • Yes to allow the skin to override the template setting.

      • No to undo a skin setting and revert to the template setting.

  11. Specify custom properties for the activities in the skin. The skin settings override the template settings, and take effect when the skin is used at runtime.
Note The Embedded activity has an additional Advanced option in skins. Use the Advanced option to override the embedded map defined for the template. The Advanced option is not available for other automatic activities like .NET and Script.
  12. Release the skin.

A new version is created for the skin. All the skin versions are listed in the Skins list in the Explorer, regardless of which template they use. The skin versions also appear in the Processes list in the Explorer, grouped by template map.

Note When you export a template map, you can also export the skins created on that template. TotalAgility exports each skin as a separate XML file. Select the XML files for the template map and the skins to import.
