Define triggers for budget escalations

Before setting up a trigger for budget escalation, you must first allocate an estimated budget to your business process; otherwise, you cannot create a budget trigger.

Tip Use the Budget property on the General tab.
  1. On the Extended Properties page of the process, click the Triggers tab.
  2. To handle escalation, use either option for Type:
    • Trigger: To use a process map to handle the budget escalation, consume the map.

Note You can only use a Process type map for a budget trigger; you cannot use a case or a case fragment.

    • Alert: See Create an alert task.

  3. Click Budget for Trigger Type.
  4. In the Fire Trigger at box, enter or select a percentage of budget spend when the trigger should be executed. For example, to execute a trigger when 80% of your budget is spent, set Fire Trigger at 80 % of Budget. To execute another trigger when you have overspent the budget by 20%, set Fire Trigger at 120% of Budget.
  5. Click Add Add.
Note The budget trigger takes into account resource costing associated with ALL tasks defined in the map including embedded and subjob processes.
