Create a simulation

  1. On the Home page, click Process Designer > Simulation.

    The Simulation page appears.

  2. In the Properties panel, click Settings Extended Properties.

    The Extended Properties page appears.

  3. Enter a Name for the simulation.
  4. Enter a Description for the simulation.
  5. Consume a category for the simulation.

By default, the simulation is added to your working category.

  6. Click Yes for Actual Activation to base the activation probability of the paths to which the control can flow (in each decision) on historical system information.

    Note
    • As activation probabilities are used in simulations to evaluate branching rules and decision nodes, make sure to use the XOR property in branching rules in simulation to ensure only a single destination is made pending.

    • A schedule is automatically added to the simulation but is inactive by default. Activate the schedule in Job scheduler so the information is accurate.

  7. Click Yes to run the simulation only during the working period specified in the Business Calendar.
  8. In the Allocate Activities By group, use either option:
    • Due Date: Allocate activities in the order in which they becoming pending.

    • Priority: Allocate activities according to their priority level.

  9. In the Timeframes group, define the duration of a simulation in one of the following ways:
    Specify the relative time.

Enter the Duration of the simulation with no start time. The system calculates the duration relative to current time.

Note A relative time is more commonly used for setting up timeframes.

    Specify the absolute time.

    1. Click Yes for Use Start Time.

    2. Use the calendar and clock to specify an actual start time.

    3. Use either Use End Time to specify a specific end time or Duration to specify the length of time for the simulation to run.

Note If an absolute time is used, the system removes existing process map workloads.

  10. In the Productivity group, select one of the following options:
    • 100%: Considers the productivity set for the resource. See Add resources for simulation.

    • Existing: Considers the productivity relative to the productivity set for the resource. Click Yes to Use Relative Productivity and enter the value. For example, if you set the productivity of the resource as 60, and set the relative productivity as 50, then Simulation uses only 30% (50% of 60) of resource productivity.

    • Specify: Overrides the resource productivity with this productivity value. Enter the value in the Overrides For All Resources box.

Add dynamic resources

Change any dynamic resources to static resources for simulation.

  1. On the Extended Properties page of simulation, click the Dynamic Resources tab.
  2. On the Consume list, select Resources.
  3. Consume the resource or group to use for the activity in the Static Resource Name box.

Configure the dynamic service standards

Change process or activity dynamic due dates and dynamic durations to static values for simulation.

  1. On the Extended Properties page of simulation, click the Dynamic Service Standards tab.
  2. Enter a Duration for Due Date for each instance of a Node or Process.
