Parameters can be used in calculations after they’re defined. When defining a parameter, supply a default value.

In a dashboard, you can include a control to allow a user to adjust the parameter value. This does not affect Pre-Processed metrics, but does affect On-Demand metrics. For example, you could create a Growth Rate parameter and allow the user to change the value to see how metric values compare with a different Growth Rate parameter value.
