Rename record fields

Fields created automatically by dragging them from the database column have a default name that matches the name of the column in the database table. This name appears on a graph or a grid when a record-based metric is created and displayed. Users often change the default name.

  1. When the record is open for editing, on the right side of the screen, click the Pushpin icon to open the Property Panel.
  2. Under the Record heading, click the name of the Record field.
  3. Click the Display Name field and type a name.

The Display Name controls the name displayed for this field in a dashboard. You can also change the field name in the DBName property, which changes the name of any database structure created in the MetricsMart to hold values for this field. If you change the ID property for this field, the field itself is renamed.

Important We do not recommend changing the ID property, because Insight uses it as a reference for the field. This procedure is only recommended in the following limited number of cases:
    • The record is new and is currently being configured.

    • When you have several records where identical dimensions are named differently (for example, ShipCity and OrderShipCity) and you need to unify them to listen to the same filter component. In this case, click the Resave all button on the Tools tab to restore all references and then change the ID property by right-clicking the field and selecting Change field ID. You are prompted with the list of documents where this Dimension ID is used, and you can enter the new ID at the bottom of the window. After you confirm this action, all references to this ID are updated throughout Insight.
