Display wizard

You can use the Display wizard to configure a chart display.

  1. Click a component to open the wizard, and click the Display icon to open the Display wizard.
  2. Select a display type in the drop-down menu.
  3. On the Display tab, in the Axis and breakdowns tab, define the display of the chart by selecting parameters from the menus for each aspect of the chart breakdown. You can also sort your chart breakdowns in this tab by using the Sort menu.

Different chart types require different definitions: line charts require the Lines (usually Data Series) and the X-axis (could be Month, City, or Product Category, etc.) defined; bar charts require only the bars defined. Upon selecting a chart that requires further definitions, additional fields appear in the Display Options window.

Sort

Once you have a chart, you can use the Sort option to change how the data is organized. Sort offers more flexibility when you decide how to display your data.

  1. Open the Display wizard.
  2. In the Axis and breakdowns tab area, select Advanced options and in the Sort tab, open the menu.
  3. On the By menu, select what you want the sort based on.
  4. On the Order menu, select Ascending, Descending, or None.
  5. Click OK.

Filter options

You can configure the chart to display only the top or bottom values of a particular dimension. This provides you with a very easy way to show only the highest or lowest performers.

  1. On the Display wizard, select Axis and breakdowns.
  2. In the Filter Options area, select Use Filter for.
  3. On the list, select the dimension to use for filtering.
  4. Select whether to filter for Top or Bottom values.
  5. Select the number of dimension values to display, along with the data series.

Drill down options

Drilling down gives your users access to multiple breakdowns of the data so they can focus on the data that is relevant to them. Drilling down allows the user to select a particular point/segment of the data and zoom into it in greater detail.

  1. On the Display wizard, click the Drill down options tab.
  2. Select one of the following:
    • Allow end users to drill into any enabled dimension

Allows the user to change the breakdown and orientation parameters by clicking the desired dimension. Gives users the ability to drill down by any dimension in any order. You can limit the dimensions that are available to the user.

    • Predefine the sequence of drill down steps

Sets the order of drill down, the sort, and the orientation. Orientation shows if the drill down breaks the data according to the x-axis or according to the breakdown. The user drills down on the chart by clicking the relevant dimension.

Drill down with user's selection

If you set the drill down option to Allow end users to drill into any enabled dimension, the user can select the drill down by clicking the chart and changing the Break down by parameter in the Viewer.

For example, suppose the chart shows average cost per months and each bar is broken down into parts (rectangular chunks) representing countries.

  1. Click a dimension that requires a drill down.
  2. On the Drill down screen, change the break down option under Break down by.
  3. Click OK.

The data for the selected dimension is drilled down to ship cities for the selected country. The X-axis is still broken by months.

Change orientation of drill down

  1. Click any dimension in the chart.
  2. On the Drill down screen, in the Orientation column, select X-axis.

In this case, the data drills down by the X-axis according to the dimension set under Break down by.

The filter applies according to the orientation.

Drill down with predefined sequence

  1. Click to fill in the boxes of the dimensions to include, or click to clear the box of dimensions you do not want to be included in the drill down sequence.
  2. Drag and drop the dimensions within the menu to change and customize the order of the breakdown.

Series Settings

Use Series Settings for conditional coloring of the series for charts and grids and also for defining the representation of cells in grids.

  1. Select the required series.
  2. For charts, do not select the cell type, leave Data and for grids, select the cell type. Possible options include:
    • Data: depending on the conditions, grid cells are colored accordingly.
    • Spark: depending on the conditions, sparks are inserted in the cells.
    • Bullet: depending on the conditions, bullet graphs are shown in the cells.
  3. Click Add New Data. Select the conditional operator and the type and value for comparison.
  4. Select the color and icon and click OK.

Chart Settings

Use Chart Settings to add color for emphasis.

  1. On the Chart Settings tab, click Add New Data.

A new settings row is created.

  2. Click Value to change from a value to a series or parameter.
  3. Click 0 under the Threshold header to adjust the threshold range where you want a new color to begin.
  4. Click Appearance and select the appearance for your threshold range.
  5. Click Color to open the color selector window, and then select a color and click OK.

Your chart now has different color settings for different thresholds of data. Add as many color thresholds as necessary.
