Scanning in Unattended Mode

You can use unattended mode with automatic batch separation.

Prior to entering unattended mode, you need to complete the following preliminary tasks:

  • From the Administration module, on the Tools tab, in the Separation & Identification group, select Reserve Patch Code.

  • Use the Separator Sheet Utility to print batch separator sheets.

  • Select your preferences for scanning in unattended mode. See Unattended Mode Options.

To use unattended mode successfully, be sure to do the following:

  • Select a scanner source device in the Scan module (software import is not supported)

  • Select non-color scanning.

  • Disable continuous sheet scanning.

  • Ensure that your batch classes do not use batch totaling, required batch fields, or numeric batch fields without default values.

  • Ensure that the batch does not include rejected pages or documents.

  • Disable duplex scanning on a simplex scanner.

  • Ensure that empty back side images do not exist in a batch as a result of switching from duplex to simplex scanning while the initial batch is open.

  1. Start the Scan module and create or open a batch.
  2. Enter the batch name and other information, and click OK.
  3. Select the property settings for scanning.
  4. Collate the pages and insert a batch separator sheet before the first page of each new batch (except the first batch) in the stack.
  5. Load the scanner with the stack of pages. Be sure the patch code is at the top of each batch separator sheet as it scans (otherwise, Kofax Capture does not recognize the patch code).
  6. On the Scan Settings tab, in the Settings group, select Unattended Mode. Processing begins immediately.
Note Each batch is automatically named based on a batch name format defined in the Batch Class Properties window - Batch Naming tab. When scanning in unattended mode, each batch name must be unique. If the batch name format does not contain values that increment (Current Date, Current Time, and Sequence Number), then a space followed by Current Date and Current Time is appended to the name to make it unique. If the new name is still not unique, then a "~" followed by a millisecond value is appended to the batch name.
  7. Continue to prepare and scan documents until all batches are scanned.
  8. Use one of the following methods to exit unattended mode:
    • Click Exit Unattended Mode.

    • On the Scan Settings tab, in the Settings group, clear Unattended Mode.

Note After exiting unattended mode, you cannot re-enter until another batch has been created or opened.
