Create Index Group Zone Window - Group Tab

Use this tab to create an Index Group Zone (SmartGroup). An index group zone is a special type of zone that can be used to treat related items as a single group.

Associated field

Select the field to be associated with the group from the drop-down list. The name of the Associated field is also used as the name of the SmartGroup in the tree views. A field can be associated with only one group. The contents of the drop-down list depends on the location of the rectangle (group box) used to define your SmartGroup. If you draw the rectangle around index zones that all have the same Associated field, then that field becomes the default (and only) selection in the drop-down list. Otherwise, the list contains, in alphabetical order, all the Associated fields from all the index zones within the rectangle. If the rectangle does not contain any index zones, the drop-down list contains, in alphabetical order, all the Associated fields from all the index zones on the current sample page.

If a field has already been associated with another SmartGroup, it is not displayed in the Associated field drop-down list. See Create Index Zone Window - General tab for information about creating index zones.

Validation Display

These options control how the group is displayed by the Image Viewer in the Validation and Verification modules.

Display group zone

Zooms in on the group box. The zoom level is set so that the entire group box is visible.

This works best when all the group members are inside the group box. Members outside the group box may not be visible within the zoomed area.

Display most confident zone

Zooms in on the index zone with the highest confidence rating in its group. Other index zones in the group may not be visible within the zoomed area. In most cases, you should also select Pick best when using this option.

There are several ways to calculate confidence.

Test button

Tests your zone settings. Your recognition profile and cleanup settings are applied to the zone and the results are displayed in the Zone Test window. The contents of the test results match the search text specified in this window.

The Test button is unavailable if the sample page is displayed from the Document class tree view. The sample must be displayed from the Batch class tree view tab if you want to use QuickZones to verify your recognition and cleanup settings.

Number of Values in Result Set

Set the range of values you expect to be in the result set. For example, suppose you have a group of seven items, and the user can check from one to three items. Use these settings to specify the range of 1 to 3.

In this case, if the user checks zero items, or more than three items, the group has a confidence of 0 percent.

Minimum

Use this field to specify the minimum number of results that must be set within the group. If fewer results are found, then the confidence level for the group is set to 0. The default minimum is 0.

This value must be less than or equal to the value in the Maximum field. If the Minimum and Maximum values are equal, then precisely that number of results must be recognized.

Maximum

Specifies the maximum number of results that can be set within the group. If more results are found, then the confidence level for the group is set to 0. The default maximum is 254.

This value must be greater than or equal to the value in the Minimum field. If the Minimum and Maximum values are equal, then precisely that number of results is expected.

If a group has OMR index zones, then the Return value for unmarked zone field in the Recognition Profile window must be blank for all the OMR index zones in the group. If this field is not blank, then it is counted as a return value, even if the characters are invisible (such as spaces).

Result Set

Use these options to define the type of result the group should return.

Pick best
Returns only the single zone with the highest confidence rating. When this option is selected, the Delimiter field is unavailable. If more than one zone has the same confidence rating, then one of the zones is selected in a manner that cannot be predicted. This is a sign that you may not be using an appropriate method for determining confidence.
Concatenate

Populates the field with all the values from the group. When this option is selected, the Delimiter field becomes available.

As the field is populated, values from the group are taken from left to right and then top to bottom (in normal read order for Western languages).

Depending on field type, the maximum length for the Associated field may be 254 characters, and could be fewer. If you are concatenating multiple results (especially with a delimiting character), you should keep your return values short enough that all of them concatenated together, along with the delimiting character, do not exceed the size allowed for the Associated field. If the field length is exceeded, the result is truncated.

Delimiter

When concatenating the results, this field specifies which character should be used to separate (delimit) the results, such as a comma or a space. You can type any character from the keyboard, keypad, or you can copy and paste special characters (such as a tab) from any source. However, only one character is allowed.

If this field is left blank, the results are strung together with no character separating them.
