Advanced High Performance Zonal Settings Window - Segmentation Tab
Use this window to specify segmentation settings for all the high performance recognition engines.

Segmentation is the process by which a recognition engine splits an image into individual characters. You can improve
segmentation accuracy with the settings in this window. In particular, this can be used to compensate for cases where spaces have
been inserted between the characters of a word;, for example,
b o o k
has extra spaces between each letter. This situation is more likely to occur during processing of handwritten
text.
Machine Print Pitch
Use this to specify the pitch (horizontal spacing) of the characters that are machine generated. Pitch is measured from the start of one character (leftmost pixel) to the start of the next character.
- Unknown
-
Select Unknown if you do not know if the pitch is fixed or variable. In this case, the recognition engine tries to determine the type (fixed or variable) and the value of the pitch automatically. This is the default selection.
- Fixed
-
Select Fixed if you know that the pitch is constant, but you do not know the exact value.
- Variable
-
Select Variable if you know that the pitch is inconsistent.
- Manual
-
Select Manual if the pitch is fixed and you want to specify an exact value. You can then provide a value in units of 1/100 mm. The default is 500 (5mm); however, you can specify any integer value from 170 to 10000.
Handprint Pitch
Use to specify the pitch (horizontal spacing) of the characters that are printed by hand.
- Variable
-
Select Variable if you know that the pitch is not inconsistent.
- Manual
-
Select Manual if the pitch is fixed and you want to specify an exact value. You can then provide a value in units of 1/100 mm. The default value is 500 (5mm); however, you can specify any integer value from 360 to 630.
