The Scan module: An overview

What does Scan do?

The Scan module is used for scanning documents after you have created document profiles. Here, the images of the documents are saved as TIFF (Tag Image File Format) files that are used by other Kofax ReadSoft Entrance modules. You can also instruct Kofax ReadSoft Entrance to save the TIFF files for archiving purposes or for processing outside the program.

Starting and running Scan

To start the process, you must first open or create a Scan job description that which indicates which document profile Scan should use when processing the documents. Scan uses the document profile to find out which scanner description to use.

Then start the job by selecting Job > Start. Scan starts your connected scanner and processes and saves the document images that arrive from the scanner.

When you run a Scan job, an information box displays the current system status, date and time (the date and time formats in accordance with your Windows settings). When you start scanning, the start date, start time and run (elapsed) time are also displayed in that box. The screen also shows a bar chart showing how many documents have been scanned. The total number of invoices as well as the total number of pages they consist of are indicated separately.

Scan supports batching of scanned documents, which means you can process stacks of documents together in order to better keep track of them.

During scanning, a number of situations can require your intervention, for example an empty or jammed document feeder. When such a situation occurs, Kofax ReadSoft Entrance displays a message that describes the situation, and you can make corrections and continue or discontinue scanning. More info.
