Types of transaction descriptions

There are three ways you can use transaction descriptions, depending on how your system uses the data that Kofax ReadSoft Entrance transfers to it. The way you intend to use a transaction description determines what it should contain, how you apply (specify) it, and the destination of the data.

Standard transaction description

Use a standard transaction description to transfer captured data out of Kofax ReadSoft Entrance.

Data must be transferred from Kofax ReadSoft Entrance to your target system. Therefore, every Transfer job requires a standard transaction description that specifies the data from processed documents.

Start and Stop transaction descriptions

Use these transaction descriptions to transfer control records before or after captured data.

Some target systems need control records at the beginning or end of the captured data. These commonly include the transfer date and time, for example. Start and stop transaction descriptions specify the format and layout of data you want Kofax ReadSoft Entrance to place at the beginning or end of the transfer file (the same file that the standard transaction is being written to).

Start and stop transaction descriptions are optional in Transfer jobs.

Archive transaction description

Use an archive transaction description to transfer captured data to a second location.

Your system may require that Kofax ReadSoft Entrance place some data in a separate transfer file, in addition to the main one, for example to use in maintaining an image archiving or workflow system. An archive transaction description specifies the format and layout that data.

Archive transaction descriptions are optional in Transfer jobs.

Tips

Note Transaction descriptions are not used when you use XML output.
