Field profiles, field definitions, and field types

Field profiles

Field profiles tell Kofax ReadSoft Entrance which fields to look for when new documents are interpreted. They are used each time you interpret a new, unidentified document. They also tell Kofax ReadSoft Entrance how to validate and interpret the fields.

Each field profile must be associated with a field type (see below).

You create and edit field profiles using the Manager module.

Field definitions

Field definitions tell Kofax ReadSoft Entrance where and how to find fields on a unique document type and how to validate and interpret them.

Document definitions and field definitions are normally created by Interpret each time a new document type is processed. Initially, the field definitions are identical to the corresponding field profiles. However, during optimization you can change the field definitions to agree with the particular features of the document type.

Field types

Field types contain basic characteristics that describe a particular kind of field. Some example field types include InvoiceTotalVatIncludedAmount and InvoiceDate. Kofax ReadSoft Entrance comes with over eighty system field types that cover most kinds of documents. They make business logic possible. You can edit them or add your own field types.

Field types form the basis of field profiles: Each field profile must be associated with a field type.
