Creating a Document

Documents are sequentially numbered within a batch. Each new document is added below existing documents. When you create a new document, it appears in the image viewer with the document number listed on the title bar. On the document title bar, the number of images in the new document is listed as zero (0) until you start scanning. For example, "Document 1 - 0 Images" might appear on the title bar of a new document.

To reorganize documents, use the settings in the Corrections group on the Document tab.

Document numbering conventions:

  • The first document number in a batch can be any number between 1 and 1,000,000,000. By default, Document 1 is assigned as the first document number. To assign a different number to the first document, type the applicable number into the Document field on the Document tab, and then create a new document.

If you start a scan operation without creating a batch and a document beforehand, Kofax Express creates them for you.

  • Once the first document is created in a batch, any subsequent new document is assigned a number directly following the previous document number. For example, a batch that starts with Document 500 is assigned sequential document numbers (such as 501, 502, 503). Batches with non-sequential document numbers (such as 500, 620, 730) are not supported.
  • You can synchronize the document numbering sequence with another numeric sequence, such as invoice numbers.
  • When you delete, merge, or split documents, the remaining documents are automatically renumbered to ensure that sequential numbering is retained within the batch.

  1. On the Batches panel, click the batch to which you want to add a new document.
  2. On the Home tab, in the New group, click New Document.

The Documents column on the Batches panel is updated to include the new document, which becomes the active document.
