Selecting Auto Rotate

Use Auto Rotate to automatically rotate images produced when you scan documents that face in a non-standard (such as sideways or upside-down) direction as they pass through the scanner. Kofax VRS adjusts the rotation based on the detected orientation of the text content. For example, Kofax VRS may detect English text that has been scanned sideways. Based on the assessment, the image is automatically rotated 90 degrees.

Auto Rotate eliminates the need to presort batches before scanning to ensure that the documents are facing in the same direction. The images are automatically rotated as you scan.

Support for Auto Rotate includes the ability to detect text content in English, French, Italian, Spanish, and German, as well as Arabic, Cyrillic, Greek, and the Asian languages. Auto Rotate is not effective for images without text content.

When scanning images that include bar codes, you may want to select Auto Rotate to ensure that the bar codes are read in the correct order.

When you select Auto Rotate, it has the potential of adversely impacting performance.

Auto Rotate may conflict with the rotation options that are available for some scanners that support advanced features. If you are using Kofax VRS with such a scanner, we recommend that you enable either Auto Rotate or the advanced rotation options, but not both. For more information, see Advanced Properties - Rotation.

  1. On the Image Quality tab, in the Page Adjustments group, click Auto Rotate.
  2. Adjust other settings or start scanning.
