Text Controls - Kodak Scanners

When you select the Advanced Properties - Imprinter Panel, a Text Controls window is available to customize the following imprinter or annotation string settings:

  • Page counter
  • Patch code detection to increment and reset imprinter counter
  • Font preferences
  • Text orientation (rotation) of the imprinted string
  • Dynamic date and time
  • Position of annotation string relative to the left of the page, and whether to perform annotation on the front, back, or both sides of a document
  • Position of imprinter or annotation text string relative to the top of the page
  • Print string definition and sample result

Page Counter

Page counter information becomes part of the imprinting or annotation string.

Enable

Select the Enable check box to activate the Page Counter feature and set related preferences. This feature gives you the ability to include a page count in the imprinter or annotation text string.

Print with

Select whether to append zeros or spaces in front of the page count or spaces at the end of the page count to retain a fixed length for all digits that will appear in the text string. The default is leading zeros.

Start at

Set the value for the start number of the automatic imprinter/annotation counter. The value is set to 1 initially, but you can enter any value. When you start a new batch, the "Start at" value corresponds to the next number in the sequence, based on the final page counter value from the previous batch.

Step amount

Set a value to determine how the automatic imprinter/annotation counter is incremented on each page. The counter should be set based on the documents being scanned, how the batches are organized, and specific user needs.

When the counter value exceeds the number of digits selected for the counter, the counter value resets to 0, depending on the increment amount.

Digits

Set a value up to 9 digits for the page counter length. The value should account for any leading zeros or spaces specified on the "Print with" list. The default setting is 5.

The counter digit value affects the imprinter or annotation string in the "Print string definition" and "Actual printed example" boxes. An audible alert occurs if you set a page counter digit value that causes the string to exceed the maximum length.

Increment on Patch Code

Use these settings to automatically increment the imprinter counter if a certain patch code is detected.

Enable

Select the Enable check box to activate the Increment on Patch Code feature and set related preferences. When selected, the imprinter counter number is increased each time the specified patch code is detected. The incremental increase is determined by the value in the "Step amount" field.

Patch Code

On the list, select the patch code type that when detected, causes the imprinter counter to be incremented.

Reset on Patch Code

Use these settings to reset the imprinter counter if a certain patch code is detected.

Enable

Select the Enable check box to activate the Reset on Patch Code feature and set related preferences. When selected, the imprinter counter number is reset each time the specified patch code is detected. When the counter is reset, it starts over with the value specified in the Reset Count field.

Patch Code

On the list, select the patch code type that when detected, causes the imprinter counter to be reset.

Font Size

Use the slider to adjust the width of the characters in the imprinter string.

Font Height

Select one of the following to adjust the height of the characters in the imprinter string:

  • Normal: Use the default height for the imprinter string characters.

  • Large: Increase the height of the imprinter string characters.

Depending on the "Offset from top" value, selecting Large may affect the length of a text string, causing it to print off the end of a document. The Font Height setting is not available when "Annotate only" is selected on the Imprinter panel.

Bold Font

Select one of the following to determine whether the text in the imprinter string is bold:

  • Normal: Do not apply bold.

  • Bold: Apply bold.

Depending on the "Offset from top" value, selecting Bold may affect the length of a text string, causing it to print off the end of a document. The Bold Font setting is not available when "Annotate only" is selected on the Imprinter panel.

Text Orientation

Select the orientation (rotation) for the imprinter or annotation text string. A preview window shows how the text is oriented when imprinted or annotated at 0 (default), 90, 180, or 270 degrees.

Insert Dynamic Content

Use the "Date and time" and Special Content drop-down lists to select codes to insert date and time or other elements into the text string. The scanner replaces the codes with the actual date or time when a document is imprinted or annotated.

Dynamic content information becomes part of the imprinting or annotation string in the "Print string definition" box and "Actual printed example" box. If the number of dynamic content characters that you want to insert exceeds the maximum string length, an audible alert occurs. Kofax VRS always shows the number of remaining characters that you can insert.

The following table shows the date and time format choices and insertion codes.

Special Content

Use the list to select special content format codes to include in the text string. The scanner replaces these codes with actual symbols or text when the document is scanned. See the table below.

Special Content Special Content Code Example
Euro Symbol %A0128
Yen Symbol %A0165 ¥
Serial Number (scanner) %S0 123456789

Annotation Position

Use the settings in this group to set preferences for annotation.

Offset from left

In the "Offset from left" text box, set the distance of an annotation string from the left edge of a page. The default and minimum value is zero, but the string is never printed less than 20 mm from the left of the page. The maximum value is dependent on paper size. You must enter whole numbers for pixels (default) and millimeters, but you can enter decimal numbers in 0.1-inch increments for inches.

Use the Front Annotation and Back Annotation check boxes to select annotation for the front or back of an image, or both.

Front annotation

Select the check box to enable front side page annotation.

Back annotation

Select the check box to enable back side page annotation.

Units

Select the unit of measurement for all numeric field entries in inches, millimeters, or pixels (DPI dependent). The default unit of measurement is inches. When you change the Units setting, the existing values are automatically converted.

Imprinter / Annotation Position

Use the settings in this group to set preferences for positioning the imprinter or annotation string.

Offset from top

In the "Offset from top" text box, set the distance of the imprinter string from the top of each page. The default and minimum value is zero; the maximum value is 25.5 inches. You must enter whole numbers for pixels and millimeters, but you can enter decimal numbers in 0.1-inch increments for inches.

The horizontal location for imprinting must be manually set inside the scanner.

Print string definition, Maximum string length, and Remaining count

Use the "Print string definition" text box to set up and/or modify the text string that you want imprinted or annotated on a document. You can provide information for the text string in two ways: type date and time and/or special content information or insert pre-formatted information from the Page Counter and Insert Dynamic Content lists.

You can see how the text string will appear as imprinted or annotated text in the "Actual printed example" box.

You can type text and special characters into the text box, but you cannot insert text using cut and paste.

Kofax VRS sounds an audible alert and truncates the print string if it exceeds the maximum length (displayed above the text box). Because the imprinter/annotation string is made up of text, a page counter, and dynamic content, consider their combined length when you define the print string.

Actual printed example

The "Actual printed example" shows how the current imprinting or annotation text will look with any optional date and time stamp, special content, or page counter expanded. When a date and time format is specified, the current date and time are applied.
