Choice List Setup Window

Use the Choice List Setup window to configure an index field to display a predefined list of values.

A choice list is useful if you want to limit the index field choices to a predefined list and prevent typographical errors. Examples of predefined choice lists include state codes, country codes, department names, airport codes, and more.

List of choices

Lists the predefined values that appear when an index operator selects the index field.

By default, the U.S. states appear on the list, which is provided only for demonstration purposes. Delete the list of states and define your own list of choices. Follow the format used in the list of states; the text preceding the semicolon populates the index field once the index operator selects a value.

Link to database

Builds a choice list based on values linked to a field in an existing database.

Setup tool

Opens the Choice List Database Setup window, where you specify which ODBC data source is used to link your choice list index field to a database. After connecting to the database, set the lookup field that is used to retrieve database values for the choice list.

Refresh

Updates the choice list values to reflect any changes to the database.
