Applying Advanced Clarity

Use Advanced Clarity to apply special processing to challenging documents if optimal image quality cannot be produced with other settings. Advanced Clarity is available if you are scanning in black and white.

  1. Do one of the following:
    • On the Scan Settings tab, in the Settings group, click VRS General.

    • On the VRS Corrections tab, in the Corrections group, click VRS General.

  2. In the Clarity group, select the Advanced Clarity check box.
  3. In the Clarity group, use the slider to indicate the level of special processing to apply to the image background. You can set a range from Low to High.
    • Move the slider to the left (toward Low) to apply minimal special processing.

    • Move the slider to the right (toward High) to apply more special processing, which may be required for complex image backgrounds. When set to High, you may need to verify that the appropriate level of detail is preserved.

  4. In the Clarity group, click the setup tool to indicate your preferences:
    • Click Analyze Color to produce optimal black and white images by including color content variations in the page evaluation. This setting is applicable if the pages contain a color background or color text. Otherwise, only grayscale variations are evaluated.

    • Click Ignore Pictures to disregard pictures or photos when the page content is evaluated. As a result, the clarity improvements are applied to other (non-picture) content on the page.
