Page Rotation

Kofax Express supports two approaches to page rotation during a scan operation:

  • Standard: Rotates pages based on the direction they are facing when they pass through the scanner. To select standard rotation, apply the settings in the Rotation group on the Scan Settings tab.

  • Automatic: Rotates pages based on the direction that the text is facing when it passes through the scanner. To select automatic rotation, apply the Auto Rotate setting in the Automatic Corrections group on the Scan Settings tab.

To rotate a page after scanning, use the rotation settings on the VRS Corrections tab.

To determine which rotation type is appropriate for your documents, consider the following:

  • The standard rotation settings are effective if you are scanning uniformly arranged pages that face the same way as they pass through the scanner. The same rotation is applied to all pages, and you must presort them to ensure they face the same way.

  • Auto Rotate is effective if you are scanning batches of pages that contain only text and are not oriented uniformly. With this approach, Kofax Express evaluates the text on each page and intelligently determines which direction it should be rotated to achieve the proper orientation. No presorting is necessary.

  • With Auto Rotate, Kofax Express evaluates text content on a page to determine how it needs to be rotated. If the evaluation cannot be performed with confidence, Kofax Express uses the standard setting to determine the rotation. For example, if a page contains a photograph rather than text, the Auto Rotate function may not be able to evaluate the page with confidence.

  • Auto Rotate has some potential to impact performance. The degree of impact may vary, according to the content on the page, the language of text on a page, the speed of your scanner, the selected resolution and color mode, and the capability of your computer.
