Advanced Properties - General - Kodak Scanners

Use the General panel to specify properties associated with productivity, document handling, and power save.

Hopper Height

The Hopper Height controls how low the scanner elevator drops each time the scanner runs out of paper. Set the "Sheet count capacity" to the approximate number of pages in a typical batch.

When you select a low sheet count, the elevator will rise quickly after you load a batch. If you set the count to 750, the scanner elevator goes to the lowest position after the scanner runs out of paper to accommodate the largest possible batch size. If the sheet count exceeds the maximum value for the scanner, Kofax VRS rounds the value down to the maximum.

Out of Paper

This timeout setting controls how long it takes to report an out of paper status after the last sheet of paper is scanned.

If you feed a sheet before the timeout interval, the scanner does not report an out of paper error. If the source is set to ADF or Manual feed in the scan application, scanning is resumed automatically. If the source is set to Panel feed in the scan application, you must press the Resume button on the scanner front panel to continue scanning.

If Kofax VRS is set to use Auto Resolve, scanning automatically continues if you add paper after the timeout interval (if the source is set to Panel feed mode in the scan application, you must press the Resume button on the scanner front panel to continue scanning). When you turn off Auto Resolve, and the scanner times out waiting for images, the scanner returns the out of paper status and Kofax VRS sends the error to the scan application.

Resolve at scanner

Use this setting to indicate how the scanner should respond to out of paper conditions. Select the check box to use the scanner front panel (rather than a Kofax VRS window) to control continuation of a batch after an out of paper condition. To resume scanning after placing paper in the input elevator, press the Resume button on the scanner front panel.

Clear the check box if you want to use Kofax VRS to resolve the condition, based on the setting on the Administration Console Exceptions panel.

Document Handling

Use this setting to adjust how documents are handled as they are transported through the scanner. The setting affects how documents are fed into the scanner, how fast they move through the scanner, and how they are stacked in the output tray.

Setting

Recommended for:

Normal

Documents that are similar in size and do not require special handling.

Fragile/Difficult*

Documents that require extra care as they are transported through the scanner and stacked in the output tray.

Thick or Envelope*

Documents that are thicker than card stock (110 lb. / 0.25 mm).

Thin*

Documents such as rice paper that are thinner than 20 lb. bond paper.

Improved Stacking (Default)*

Stacking and ordering sheets in the output tray for batches that contain a mixed set of document lengths. Suitable for most mixed sets.

Best Stacking*

Stacking and ordering sheets in the output tray for batches that contain significant variations in document lengths.

Intelligent Protection

Use this setting to stop the scanner if a certain level of document creasing is detected. You can adjust the level of sensitivity that would cause the scanner to stop as the result of document creasing.

This feature is available for scanners equipped with microphones that detect document creasing, based on the sound made as the document passes through the transport.

Setting

Description

None

Turns off Intelligent Protection.

Minimum

Applies a minimal level of sensitivity to sounds made as the result of document creases. The scanner may not stop for documents that contain minor creases.

Normal

Applies an average level of sensitivity to sounds made as the result of document creases.

Maximum

Applies the maximum level of sensitivity to sounds made as the result of document creases. The scanner is likely to stop as soon as a document crease is detected.

Power Save

The power save timeout controls how long before the scanner enters power save mode after scanning is complete and remains idle. If you have to wait too often for the scanner to wake up after entering power save mode, you may need to increase the power save timeout.

To change the power save timeout, enter the number of minutes to delay before entering power save mode. The text box shows the default value or the last selected value for the timeout.

Refer to the scanner documentation for more information about energy conservation.
