Setting Values for Brightness, Contrast, and Gamma

Use this procedure to set the Brightness, Contrast, and Gamma settings.

You can select Brightness, Contrast, and Gamma settings per color mode. For example, the settings for color mode may differ from the settings for black and white scanning.

The Brightness setting affects the amount of "light" in an image. With a high Brightness setting, less of the background or fill colors and highlighted areas of an image are enhanced. With a low Brightness setting, more of the background or fill colors and highlighted areas are enhanced.

For black and white or grayscale scanning, select Auto Brightness if you want Kofax VRS to automatically apply the optimal Brightness setting.

The Contrast setting affects the amount of difference between the lightest and darkest areas in an image.

The Gamma setting affects the conversion of light intensity into pixels; typically, it is not necessary to adjust this value.

  1. Do one of the following:
    • On the Scan Settings tab, in the Settings group, click VRS General and click a color mode.

    • On the VRS Corrections tab, in the Corrections group, click VRS General and click a color mode.

  2. In the Clarity group, do the following:
    • Use the slider to adjust the Brightness setting, or select a value from the box.

    • For black and white or grayscale scanning, select the Auto Brightness check box if you want Kofax VRS to automatically apply the optimal Brightness value.

  3. In the Clarity group, do the following:
    • Use the slider to adjust the Contrast setting, or select a value from the box.

    • Use the slider to adjust the Gamma setting, or select a value from the box.

  4. Change to another color mode and repeat the process to select values for Brightness, Contrast, and Gamma.

The values are saved per color mode.
