Auto Resolve Settings

Use the Auto Resolve settings to specify when the Auto Resolve message window should appear in response to certain scanner conditions. Auto Resolve settings are saved with the job settings.

Some conditions (empty scanner, paper jam, open scanner cover, or multifeed) can interrupt a scanning operation, and Auto Resolve offers a mechanism to resume scanning automatically after you resolve the conflict. When you select any of the following conditions, an Auto Resolve message window appears each time the condition occurs.

Out of paper

Displays the Auto Resolve message window if the scanner runs out of paper.

Paper jam

Displays the Auto Resolve message window if a misfeed causes paper to get stuck in the scanner.

Cover open

Displays the Auto Resolve message window if the scanner cover is not closed securely.

Multifeed

Displays the Auto Resolve message window if multiple pages are detected in the scanner at the same time. Available only if the currently selected scanner supports multifeed detection.

When you select any of the preceding conditions, scanning is paused when it occurs. The Auto Resolve message window explains what action you can take to resolve the condition. Once you resolve the issue, processing is automatically resumed.

For example, if you select "Out of paper," an Auto Resolve message appears if all pages are scanned and the scanner is empty. If you add more paper to the scanner, scanning is resumed automatically and the message is cleared. While the Auto Resolve message is displayed, you can click the option on the message window to stop scanning. As a result, the scanner discontinues automatic attempts to resume the scanning process.

If you do not select Auto Resolve, processing is stopped if any of the preceding conditions occurs, and a message appears in the status bar, if appropriate. Processing does not resume until you manually restart it. For example, if you do not select "Out of paper", an Auto Resolve message does not appear if the scanner is empty. Processing does not resume until you add paper to the scanner and select a control to start scanning again.
