Setting Up a Recognition Zone Template

The general recognition zone setup procedure using Lasso Mode works well for most situations. However, if you expect to reuse recognition zones indefinitely, use the Template Mode technique, which is useful for indexing information that appears consistently in the same location from one document to another. When you select Template Mode, your existing recognition zones are saved as a zone template and applied to subsequent documents with similar attributes. The zone template becomes part of the job settings.

While using Template Mode, you can draw additional zones to override a zone on a particular document; the original saved zone template is available again when you advance to the next document.

To establish a template, click Lasso Mode with Memorize, and use a sample document to create the zones you want to preserve. Then click Template Mode to save the zones to a template. You can set up one index zone template per job.

  1. On the Index Setup tab, in the Zonal Recognition group, click Lasso Mode and Memorize.
  2. While Lasso Mode is selected, follow the general setup procedure to draw zones on a page representing the most common document type in your batch.
    1. Draw the zones carefully so they include only the target information.
    2. Make sure the zones do not intersect other areas on the document.
  3. On the Index Setup tab, in the Zonal Recognition group, click Template Mode.

A message confirms that the existing zones drawn in Lasso Mode will be saved as a template.
