Advanced Properties - Document Setup - Ngenuity Scanners
Use the Document Setup panel to set properties for your documents before scanning them.
Document Types
Select one of the following to indicate the type of documents that you'll be scanning. Selection of some document types may result in reduced scanner speed.
Document Type |
Description |
---|---|
Normal |
Typical documents requiring normal transport speed |
Fragile / difficult |
Delicate documents that can easily tear, requiring reduced transport speed |
Thick or envelope |
Thick paper or envelopes |
Tri-Fold |
Tri-fold documents |
Allow Large Skew
Select the Allow Large Skewcheck box to retain corner data for highly skewed documents that enter the scanner at a non-parallel angle with the feed path. With this setting enabled, the scanner creates an image of the entire skewed document and then applies the Auto Rotate and Deskew settings to adjust image orientation.
Very Long Document
Select the Very Long Document check box when you are scanning a document that is more than 40 inches in length. When scanned, very long documents are segmented into multiple images from the one very long document. Segment size is determined by the Paper size setting.
Conflicting Option |
Resolution |
---|---|
Single page scan |
Scanning is stopped and an error message appears. The Very Long Document setting is not supported with single page scanning. |
Exceptions - Warning |
The very long document is scanned, ignoring the warning conditions that are set. No error message appears. |
Every Page |
The scan is terminated, and an error message appears. The Very Long Document setting is not supported with single page scanning. |
First Page |
The scan is terminated, and an error message appears. The Very Long Document setting is not supported with single page scanning. |
Deskew and Auto Crop |

Image rotation of 90, 180, or 270 degrees |
Do not select rotation options if you are scanning a very long document. |
Auto Rotate |
The scan is terminated, and an error message appears. For best results, do not select the Very Long Document and Auto Rotate settings at the same time. |
Picking Rectangle |
For best results, do not select the Very Long Document and the Picking Rectangle settings at the same time. |
Blank page detection |
For best results, do not select the Very Long Document and the Detection settings at the same time. |
Auto Contrast |
For best results, do not select the Very Long Document and the Auto Contrast settings at the same time. |
Ignore Holes/Ragged Edges
You can specify whether you want the scanner to ignore holes or torn/ragged edges on a document that could result in scanning errors.
This feature affects the scanner's ability to detect the edge of a document. If you do not select this setting and the scanner encounters a document with a hole, tear, or a ragged leading or trailing edge, it may incorrectly detect the document edge or report a scanner error condition.
Another Ignore Holes feature is available in the Blank Page group on the Image Quality tab. Although the two features have a similar name, they work independently of each other and perform different functions.
- Enable
-
Select the Enable check box when you want the scanner to ignore holes, tears, or ragged leading or trailing document edges. If the check box is not selected, the scanner uses the default edge detection method for scanning documents.
- Ignore Size
-
Specify the maximum size of areas on a document where there is no paper (for example, holes or torn or folded edges).
Negative Image
Select the Front Enable and/or Back Enable check box to invert the shades in a black and white or grayscale image (for example, to invert white characters on a black background to black characters on a white background) before Kofax VRS processing is performed. You can apply this setting to one or both sides of an image.
Dark Background Crop
If Auto Crop is active, select the Dark Background Crop check box to ensure accurate cropping of images with dark background edges or dark photos.
After selecting Dark Background Crop, use the slider to indicate the current level of darkness in your documents. The slider settings range from 1 to 5, with 1 as the least amount of darkness and 5 as the highest amount.
When scanning documents without dark backgrounds or photos, turn off this feature because it can produce black edge borders due to "under-cropping."
