Processing the Image Background

Use this procedure to select preferences that affect the way that the background region is processed for color or grayscale images.

  1. On the Scan Settings tab, in the Settings group, click VRS Color.
  2. On the Scan Settings tab, in the Background group, click Smoothing.

Smoothing converts the color background of an image to a single color, resulting in a more readable image with a smaller file size. Otherwise, the background region of a color image is not changed when it is processed.

  3. If you selected Smoothing in the previous step, do one of the following to set the level of smoothing to apply to the image background:
    • Move the slider to the left to decrease the level of smoothing.

    • Move the slider to the right to increase the level of smoothing.

  4. Click Snap to White to achieve the following results:
    • If the background region color is close to white, it is converted to white.

    • If the background region is not close to white, it is converted to a smoothed background color, as determined by the scanner.

Some scanners do not support the Snap to White feature.

  5. Click Background Color to White to convert any background color to white.
