Text Controls - Ngenuity Scanners

When the Front page prescan or Back page postscan option is selected on the Advanced Properties - Imprinter Panel, a Text Controls window is available to customize such imprinter or annotation string settings as the following:

  • Page counter settings, including appending leading zeros or leading or trailing spaces to the count, and specifying a start number, a step amount, and the number of counter digits
  • Settings for patch code control of page counters
  • Text orientation (rotation) of the string
  • Dynamic date, time, and special content, such as symbols or scanner serial number (ID)
  • Imprinter and annotation position of the string relative to the top of the page
  • Annotation position of the string relative to the left of the page, and whether annotation will be performed on the front, back, or both sides of a document

The values you specify in the Page Counter and Insert Dynamic Content groups are automatically inserted as special format codes in the "Print string definition" box. The scanner replaces these codes with actual text as a document is scanned. A preview of how this content will look as imprinted or annotated text appears in the "Actual printed example" box.

Page Counter

Page counter information becomes part of the imprinting or annotation string.

Enable

Select the Enable check box to activate the Page Counter feature, which is used to activate the page counter, append leading zeros or leading or trailing spaces to the count, specify a starting number for the automatic imprinter/annotation counter, determine the amount by which the counter is incremented, and set the number of digits to use. The counter supports up to 9 digits, which can be positioned anywhere in the text string.

Page counter information becomes part of the imprinting or annotation string in the "Print string definition" box and "Actual printed example" box. If the number of page counter digits that you want to insert exceeds the maximum string length, an audible alert occurs.

Print with

Select whether to append zeros or spaces in front of the page count or spaces at the end of the page count to retain a fixed length for all digits that will appear in the text string. The default is leading zeros.

Example

If the current counter value is 472, the text string for an eight-digit counter appears as follows:

  • With leading zeros: "00000472"
  • With leading spaces:" 472"
  • With trailing spaces: "472 "

Start at

The starting page counter value is set to 1 initially, but you may enter any starting value using the "Start at" text box. When you start a new batch, the "Start at" value is the next number in the sequence based on the final page counter value from the previous batch.

Step amount

Select a value from the "Step amount" list to determine how the automatic imprinter/annotation counter is incremented on each page. The counter should be set based on the documents being scanned, how the batches are organized, and specific user needs. The default value is 1.

When the counter value exceeds the number of digits selected for the counter, the counter value resets to 0, depending on the increment amount.

Digits

Select a value from the Digits list to specify the page counter length, which should take into consideration any leading zeros or leading or trailing spaces appended to the page count in the "Print with" list. You can specify from 1 to 9 digits; the default setting is 5 digits.

Counter digit information becomes part of the imprinting or annotation string in the "Print string definition" box and "Actual printed example" box. If the number of page counter digits that you want to insert exceeds the maximum string length, an audible alert occurs.

Increment on Patch Code

Use these settings to increment the counter when a certain patch code sheet is detected.

Enable

Select the Enable check box to increment the counter when a certain patch code sheet is detected, instead of incrementing on every page.

Patch Code

Select the patch code to use to increment the counter.

Reset on Patch Code

Use the settings in this group to reset the counter when a certain patch code sheet is detected.

Enable

Select the Enable check box to reset the counter when a certain patch code sheet is detected.

Reset Count

Enter the number you want to reset the count to.

Patch Code

Select the patch code to use for resetting the counter.

Imprint Patch Code Sheets

Select the Imprint Patch Code Sheets check box to apply the imprinter string to patch code sheets. Otherwise, patch code sheets are skipped during the imprinting and counting process.

Font Height and Font Width

You can select whether you want imprinted text to print normally or in larger and/or wider characters on a document. Selecting "Large" prints taller characters; selecting "Wide" prints wider characters. The default print size is "Normal."

Selecting a Large and/or Wide print size may change the length of text strings, causing the text to print off the end of the document. Also, you can select the font size but not the font type; by default, the scanner prints standard Latin font characters

Text Orientation

Select the orientation (rotation) for the imprinted and/or annotated text string. A preview of how the text will be oriented when imprinted or annotated at 0 (default), 90, 180, and 270 degrees appears next to the selected orientation.

Insert Dynamic Content

Select the pre-formatted date and time or special content code to insert into the text string. The code is replaced by actual data when a document is scanned.

Dynamic content information becomes part of the imprinting or annotation string in the "Print string definition" box and "Actual printed example" box. If the number of dynamic content characters that you want to insert exceeds the maximum string length, an audible alert occurs.

Date and time

Select date and time format codes to include in the text string. These codes are replaced with actual dates and times by the scanner when the document is scanned. The date and time formats and codes appear in the table below.

Special Content

Use the list to select special content format codes to include in the text string. The scanner replaces these codes with actual symbols or text when the document is scanned. See the table below.

Special Content Special Content Code Example
Euro Symbol %A0128
Yen Symbol %A0165 ¥
Serial Number (scanner) %S0 123456789

Annotation Position

Use the settings in this group to set preferences for annotation.

Offset from left

In the "Offset from left" text box, set the distance of an annotation string from the left edge of a page. The default and minimum value is zero, but the string is never printed less than 20 mm from the left of the page. The maximum value is dependent on paper size. You must enter whole numbers for pixels (default) and millimeters, but you can enter decimal numbers in 0.1-inch increments for inches.

Annotation can be performed on the front, back, or both sides of a document and is set up using the "Front annotation" and "Back annotation" check boxes. The "Offset from left" text box is available only if front and/or back annotation is selected. By default, neither front nor back annotation is selected.

Front annotation

Select the check box to enable front side page annotation.

Back annotation

Select the check box to enable back side page annotation.

Units

Set text positioning values in inches, millimeters, or pixels (dpi dependent). The default unit of measurement is pixels.

Imprinter/Annotation Position

Use the settings in this group to set preferences for positioning the imprinter or annotation string.

Offset from top

In the "Offset from top" text box, set the distance of the imprinter string from the top of each page. The default and minimum value is zero; the maximum value is 25.5 inches. You must enter whole numbers for pixels and millimeters, but you can enter decimal numbers in 0.1-inch increments for inches.

The horizontal location for imprinting must be manually set inside the scanner.

Document Front, Document Back, Both Sides

Select whether you want annotation performed on the document front, document back, or both sides of a document.

Offset from left

Set the distance of an annotation string from the left edge of a page. Be sure to select an offset measurement that remains within the length of the image.

Print string definition, Maximum string length, and Remaining count

Use the "Print string definition" text box to set up and/or modify the text string that you want imprinted or annotated on a document. You can provide information for the text string in two ways: type date and time and/or special content information or insert pre-formatted information from the Page Counter and Insert Dynamic Content lists.

You can see how the text string will appear as imprinted or annotated text in the "Actual printed example" box.

You can type text and special characters into the text box, but you cannot insert text using cut and paste.

Exceeding the maximum string length of 72 (displayed above the text box) results in the string being truncated to the maximum length, and an audible alert occurs. Because the imprinter/annotation string consists of text, a page counter, and dynamic content, consider their combined length and the character placeholders remaining (shown to the right in the "Remaining count" column) when you set the string length.

Actual printed example

The "Actual printed example" shows how the current imprinting or annotation text will look with any optional date and time stamp, special content, or page counter expanded. When a date and time format is specified, the current date and time are applied.
