Invalid and Incomplete Index Fields

This list gives you guidelines related to invalid and incomplete index fields.

  • An invalid field is one that does not pass all validation according to the configuration in the Index Setup tab.

  • An incomplete field is either an invalid field or a blank field that has not been checked yet; once the cursor passes on that field, it is considered checked, even if you ignore it and leave it blank.

  • When the current field is invalid, an error message is displayed to describe the reason for the problem.

  • Another type of error might result if an index field is expected on page 3, but the document contains no page 3. In this case, the first page is displayed and the user is able to navigate to another page if the information is located elsewhere.

  • When you overwrite a field, it is checked again. If an incorrect value is entered, appropriate error messages are displayed.

  • You cannot move from one invalid index field to another until the first invalid field is resolved. However, you can move between index fields within the same document.

  • You cannot export a batch that contains any invalid index fields. If you attempt to do so, a warning is displayed to indicate the source of the problem.

  • If you have index fields that are intended to be used as file or folder names during export, they must not contain these unsupported characters: / \ : * ? ; < > |

  • If you need to adjust the index setup configuration settings, you must exit Indexing mode and return to the Index Setup tab.
