Fuzzy databases, fields, and documents

Databases often contain additional fields like internal customer IDs or contact names that are not printed on a document. When you use a database for extraction using a Database Locator, you need to select the Search option for the fields present on the document only. This imports the selected fields into a fuzzy index at runtime to match the document.

Fields that are not on the document but are selected for Search, are imported into the fuzzy index and may decrease the confidence of any returned alternatives for the Database Locator.

If a database lookup button is configured to use a fuzzy database, then all fields that are searched by the database lookup must have Search selected.

It is possible that a single database is used by both a Database Locator and a database lookup. If the database is configured so that several fields have their Search option enabled even though these fields are not present on the document, then the Database Locator Search Masks settings need adjustments. The Search Masks tab provides another level where you can ignore these fields from the Database Locator confidence calculation, ensuring that they do not impact the confidence results. The Database Locator Search Masks should include the fields that are present on a document only, regardless of their corresponding Search selection.
