OMR Zone Profile Settings window

You can use this window to modify the properties for OMR zone profiles and to optimize the recognition of optical mark fields.

Result Texts

This group has the following options:

Unmarked

Type a value that is returned when an OMR zone is unmarked. The value for this option is set to 0 by default.

Marked

Type a value that is returned when an OMR zone is marked. The value for this option is set to 1 by default.

Unsure

Type a value that is returned when an OMR zone is unsure. The value for this option is set to ~ by default.

Important Changing these result texts change them for all OMR zones. If you want to change these values, but only for a specific zone, use the Override Result Texts option instead.
Mode

This group enables you to select one of the following modes:

  • Automatic.

Select this option to enable the recognition engine to use its default settings to recognize marked zones. When this option is selected, the Manual Mode group is disabled. This is the default value for this option.

Note In Automatic mode, the OMR recognition profile only works with two or more grouped OMR zones and automatically calculates the minimum and maximum blackness and threshold for a number of OMR boxes by comparing the boxes to one another. For a single OMR zone, use the Manual Mode.

  • Manual.

Select this option to override the default recognition settings. When this option is selected, the Automatic Mode group is disabled.

Automatic Mode

This group is only available when the Automatic value is selected for Mode option and has the following options:

Same size boxes

Enable this option if all the boxes on your document are the same size. This option is cleared by default. This option is selected by default.

Number of zones

An OMR zone can behave as a select one field or a select many field. Choose the number of zones that can be selected from the following:

  • One checked zone.

Select this option if there is only a single check box selected. For example, a gender or title selection, where only one list item is checked.

  • Many checked zones.

Select this option if more than one check box can be selected. For example, areas of interest on an application form, where more than one option is selected. This is the default value for this option.

Manual Mode

This group is only available when the Manual option is selected for Mode.

For an unmarked field, it is expected that there is very little blackness in an OMR zone. You can increase or decrease these values to suit your needs. The "Blackness values for unmarked fields" can be configured using the following options:

Min. blackness

Use the slider or type in the minimum value, represented in percent, that represents an unmarked field. The value for this option is set to 0 by default.

Max. blackness

Use the slider or type in the maximum value, represented in percent, that represents an unmarked field. The value for this option is set to 15 by default.

For a marked field, it is expected that some blackness is found in an OMR zone. You can increase or decrease these values to suit your needs. The "Blackness values for marked fields" can be configured using the following options:

Min. blackness

Use this slider to type in the minimum value that represents a marked field. The value for this option is set to 20 by default.

Max. blackness

Use this slider or type in the maximum value that represents a marked field. The value for this option is set to 40 by default.

Override Result Texts

If you want to modify the result texts an individual OMR zone, you can do this here, without affecting all other zones.

For example, a class has three OMR zones for Mr., Mrs., and Miss, grouped together to determine a title. Each title is typed into the Marked field, ensuring that the name of the title is returned rather than a number.

Override profile settings

Select this option if you want to override the default settings of the OMR profile. These are listed above in the Results Texts group. This option is cleared by default.

Unmarked

Type a value that is returned when an OMR zone is unmarked. This option is unavailable if the Override profile settings option is disabled.

Marked

Type a value that is returned when an OMR zone is marked. This option is unavailable if the Override profile settings option is disabled.

Unsure

Type a value that is returned when an OMR zone is unsure. This option is unavailable if the Override profile settings option is disabled.
