Edit inherited field details

If you want to make a change to a field that is inherited in one or more child class, you may also want to make changes to those inherited fields. To simplify locating and selecting these fields, a shortcut menu option is available for quick selection. This enables you to edit the parent class field as well as all of the inherited fields in a single location.

Folder fields are also inherited by any child folders, but these inherited folder fields are read-only. Because of this, there is no shortcut menu item to display the inherited folder fields. This does not mean that you cannot select multiple folder fields by pressing Ctrl and clicking on the inherited fields, you just cannot edit them.

You can edit inherited field details by following these steps:

  1. Expand the Project Tree and select the class that has inherited classes and fields.
  2. Optionally, view the class contents if they are not already displayed.

The hidden class contents are displayed.

  3. Open the Details window if it is not already open.
  4. In the parent class, right-click the field that is inherited in child classes.

    A shortcut menu is displayed.

  5. From the shortcut menu, click Select Inherited Fields.

The selected field and all of its inherited fields are displayed in the Details window in an editable grid.

Tip If you want to edit inherited fields in more than one class, you Ctrl-click additional inherited fields.
  6. Edit the field grid as necessary.
Note All changes made here are saved automatically.
