Add zones for a group of check boxes

OMR zones can be grouped together so the result of the group zone is the value of the individual zone within the group that was selected. This type of grouping is commonly used for groups of check boxes where only a single box is selected.

For example, if a form contains a set of check boxes specifying the method of payment, each individual check box needs a zone to determine if it is selected. Adding a group zone around the individual check boxes means that the group zone value returns the value of the selected zone within the group.

You can add a zone for a group of check boxes by following these steps:

  1. Open the locator properties.
  2. Open the reference document.

The Document Viewer (zone mode) window is displayed.

  3. On the Document Viewer (zone mode) toolbar, select the page containing the data to extract.
  4. On the toolbar, click Add OMR Zone Add OMR Zone icon.

The cursor changes to enable you to draw the zone.

  5. Draw an OMR zone around each check box, as shown in the example that follows the procedure.

The zones should closely surround each check box and be approximately the same size.

Note Modify the zone settings as necessary and close the Properties of Zone window each time you draw a zone around a check box.
  6. On the toolbar, click Add OMR Group Zone Add OMR Group Zone icon.

The cursor changes so that you can draw the zone.

  7. Draw the OMR group zone around all of the OMR zones you added earlier, as shown in the example.
  8. Edit the zone properties to account for the new grouping.
Note Once grouped, the OMR group zone name is appended to each member zone name.
  9. Optionally, close the Document Viewer (zone mode) window.
  10. Optionally, click Close to close the locator properties window.
  11. Save the changes to your project.
