Open files for testing and optimization

For testing and optimizing a project, you need to load a document set into the Documents window. You can test and optimize classification and extraction results with these documents.

Project Builder can use three different types of source files:

The source files serve to create XDocuments that are document representations that are used by the extraction algorithms throughout the complete process during production. These XDocuments (*.xdc) contain the layout information that is needed for the extraction of the field data. Layout information consists of text elements such as words and their geometries, fonts, and location, and graphical elements such as lines, logos, and textures. By using the document shortcut menu in the Documents window, you can open the XDocument within the XDoc Browser to get access to this information.

See the Scripting Help for more information about XDocuments.

If you have a pre-sorted set of documents, you can also use these to configure your project hierarchy.

You can open files for testing by following these steps:

  1. Open the Documents window if it is not already open.
  2. If a different view is in use, switch to the List View Documents Window - Flat View icon.
  3. In the Documents window, click Open Document Set Open Document Set icon.

The Open Document Set window is displayed.

  4. For the Path, click Browse to select a location.
  5. Select a directory containing the required documents and click OK.
  6. In the Open Document Set window, select the File Type.
Note If you have mixed or unknown file types, keep the default Automatic setting. Otherwise, select the most appropriate file type based on the contents of your selected Path.
  7. Optionally, select Include subdirectories so that any documents in the directories under the selected Path are included in the document set.

This option is available only when a Path has nested directories.

If selected, several other options relating to subfolders are available.

Note The other options now available are not normally required when opening a document set for testing and optimizing a project. As a result, none of these options are mentioned here. If you want to use these options, please see Using Document Set to configure a Project Hierarchy for more information.
  8. When you finish editing the options on the Open Document Set window, click OK.

A new document set is added and its default document subset is selected in the Documents window.
