Save your golden files

Once you have gone to the effort of creating a set of golden files, regardless of whether they are all-purpose or not, you do not want them accidentally overwritten or corrupted by accident.

You can save your golden files by following these steps:

  1. Create a copy of your golden files in a location that is unlikely to be tampered with so you have a clean copy available at all times.
  2. Make your golden files read-only so they cannot be modified as follows:
    1. Open your golden files.
    2. Select one of your golden file document subsets, right-click and then click Open Windows Explorer.

      Windows Explorer is displayed.

    3. Open the folder properties and enable the Read-only option.
    4. A second window is displayed that asks if you want to apply the changes to all directories. Select Apply changes to this folder, subfolders and file.
    5. Click OK.

You now have a set of read-only golden files.
