Manage string substitutions

String substitution enables you to replace searched text with a replacement. This is commonly used when a string can have several formats, all that mean the same thing.

For example, a document class contains the street name for an address. On different documents in that class, the word Avenue can frequently be referred to as Ave. or Aven. A set of string substitutions can be used to normalize all versions of Avenue so they are all replaced with Av. Similarly, Boulevard, Street, Close, and Road can all be substituted with a consistent replacement string.

You typically have multiple Search Text values mapped to the same Replacement Text value.

String substitution ensures that the processing results are consistent regardless of what string variation is present on a document.

To manage string substitutions:

  • Add a string substitution

  • Modify a string substitution

  • Delete a string substitution

  • Export a set of string substitutions*

  • Import a set of string substitutions*

* Only available for database string substitutions, and not available in the Address Evaluator.

In order to add, modify, delete, import, or export string substitutions for an Address Evaluator, you need to modify the General tab properties. For a database, you need to modify the Local Fuzzy Database properties.
