These option provide some additional options to enhance bar code recognition.

This tab is available only when you select either the FineReader or FineReader and Enhanced Bar Code values for the Select how bar codes are recognized.

This tab is disabled when the Enhanced Bar Code value is selected for the Select how bar codes are recognized option.

Type

This group contains a list of bar code types. The value for this option is set to Auto detect by default.

When Auto detect is selected, all other bar code types are unavailable. If you clear the Auto detect value, you can select one or more of the 1D or 2D bar code types.

If you know the type of bar code used in your documents, select the specific type. Otherwise, select Auto detect.

Orientation

This group has the following option:

Select orientation

Select one of the following orientation options:

• Auto detect determines the bar code orientation automatically. This is the default value for this option.

• Left to right indicates that the bar code is upright, reads from left to right, and is not rotated.

• Down to top indicates that the bar code is rotated 90° and needs to be read from the bottom upward.

• Right to left indicates that the bar code is rotated 180° and needs to be read from right to left.

• Top to down indicates that the bar code is rotated 270° and needs to be read from top to bottom.

CheckSums

This group has the following option:

Enable Checksums

This option is available only if the Interleaved 25 or the Code 39 1D bar code type is selected. Select this option to help reduce errors if the bar code is misinterpreted.

Code 39 Without Asterisk

If you are processing documents with a checksum and the start and stop symbol in the Code 39 bar codes is an asterisk, select this option to ensure that your Code 39 bar codes are detected successfully. This option is selected by default.

Image Preprocessing

This group has the following options.

Correct Skew

Select this option to correct any slightly distorted bar codes during recognition. This option is selected by default.

Fast Black & White Conversion

Rapidly converts a colored image into a black and white image in preparation for processing.

Note If selected, quality may be negatively affected.

This option is cleared by default.
