Change the recognition profile for a zone

By default, the default recognition profile is assigned to every zone based on its zone type. OMR zones are assigned the default OMR recognition profile and text zones are assigned the default zone recognition profile. Depending on how recognition is configured for your project, the default profiles may not be suitable for one or more of your zones.

For example, the default zone profile is set to FR_HandAlphaNum. This profile uses the FineReader recognition engine and is configured for hand written alphanumeric characters. If you have a zone that contains computer or typewriter printed text, this default profile will not provide the best extraction results for your zone. Similarly, if you have a zone that contains and will always contain numbers only, it would be best to select one of the recognition profiles that does not allow alphabetic characters. The FR_MachineNum profile is specialized to recognize machine printed numbers.

You can change the recognition profile that extracts the data from a zone by following these steps:

  1. Open the locator properties.
  2. Open the reference document.

    The Document Viewer (zone mode) window is displayed.

  3. On the toolbar, click Selection Mode Selection Mode icon.
  4. Double-click on the zone that requires a different recognition profile.

    The Zone Properties window is displayed.

  5. In the Recognition group, select the appropriate recognition profile from the Profile list.
  6. Optionally, if there is not a suitable recognition profile in the list, click Profiles and add a global zone recognition profile.

    The Project Settings window is displayed.

  7. Optionally, in the locator properties Recognition group, click Properties to edit the selected recognition profile properties.
    Important Editing a recognition profile properties will change the global profile. Any changes made here will have an impact on all zones and other locator methods that are using this recognition profile. If the selected profile is not suitable and you want to edit its properties, create a new profile via the Project Settings and select that profile for this zone instead.
  8. In the locator properties window, click Test to see if the different recognition profile improves your extraction results.
  9. Click Close to close the locator properties window.
  10. Save the changes to your project.
