Creating a Template Library

  1. Click the Launch TemplateEditor button under the Parameters section.
  2. The Form Template Editor window launches.
  3. Create a Template Library by clicking New under the File menu. The new library is automatically named New Library, New Library(2).

You can rename it by clicking on the template library name. Clicking the gray X icon on the left of the library tab deletes the selected template library.

  4. Add a template and save it in the template library. You can add templates to the template library in the following ways:
    • Click Add template: a windows file open dialog box opens and you can browse your form images and click Open in the file open dialog box. If multiple pictures are selected, all of them will be added.
    • File Menu > Add.
    • Choose to add a single-page or a multi-page template to the library through the following steps:
      1. Click the File tab in the application window (for more details on the File tab consult the Form Template Editor help).
      2. Select Add from the File menu (Add is selected by default).
      3. Click any of the template names (Template, Multipage Template) to create them.
    • Right-click on the Templates item of a library: While on the Home tab, right-click on the Templates item of a Library and select either Add template or Add multipage template.

If you click on the Add template option, a Windows file open dialog box opens to select the form template image. The selected form template is displayed under the Templates tree item.

Click on the Add multipage template option, to create a new empty multipage template library folder, to which you can add form template images.

The same picture (template) can be added multiple times. If an existing named image is added, the new template name will be extended with a number: xyz(2)

The images used for creating a template should be scannedw images created from the device you plan on using. Be sure to use real business documents to maximize accuracy of the recognition. The available image format choices are: TIF, PCX, DCX, BMP, JPG, GIF, PNG, XIFF, MAX, PDF, XPS, JP2, JB2, JBG and JPEG XR.

If you want to process / recognize forms with different layouts, you need to create multiple templates in the library.

If you click on the Add multipage template option, a new empty multipage template library folder is created, to which you can add form template images later on.

In case of adding a multipage image to the multipage template folder, users can specify FTE behavior in the Options dialog's When adding a multipage image section. For more details on the Options dialog, consult the Form Template Editor help.

If the Let me select which pages to add option is selected, Form Template Editor pops up a dialog where you can select which pages you wish to add to the library.

The following options are available when specifying the page range:

  • Add only a single page range: 1-2 (default)
  • Add multiple page ranges: 1-2, 5-8 (separate ranges by comma)

If an invalid page range is specified, a warning message occurs.

By default, if a multi-page image is added to a single-page template, Form Template Editor automatically creates a Multipage Template folder for it.
