eCopy Form Overlay Extender

The eCopy Form Overlay Extender enables users to run a workflow which collects data (either via direct input or from a scanned document) and populate the fields of a pre-defined (form) template. Optionally, scanned (MFP) or attached (BC) pages can be part of the document created by the workflow. It is possible to create searchable text output documents via Form Overlay Extender.

Form Overlay Extender can also process documents coming from the watcher service.

The data for filling the form templates of Form Overlay Extender can arrive through Data Publishing.

Data Publishing Mapper provides the connection between the Form Overlay Extender and other parts of ShareScan. It ensures that the defined zones in the template editor will be available in the Data Publishing Mapper. The zones of the selected form template library of Form Overlay Extender profiles will appear as Connector Keys in the mapper dialog. You can map any Published Key to the FOE zone like in case of normal connector keys.

The fields will show up in the filled form in their respective areas with the field values set by the workflow through Data Publishing. Form Overlay Extender can put strings, Form Overlay Extender can put strings, Barcodes and draw images to the output fields Form Overlay Extender can draw strings into the given area, draw the letters of the string into comb fields, draw images from base64 decoded string and draw check boxes.

Check box zones can put user defined sings into the used region if the mapped DP value for the zone is equal to a predefined string.

Users can put both the same and different type of zones over each other. The overlapping zones are visible in descending order. The last defined zone is on top.

Template settings

Click the Launch TemplateEditor button to start the Form Template Editor tool.

For a full understanding of the Form Template Editor tool, description of its features, consult the Form Template Editor Help.

Create a single or multi page template using the tool and save it.

Form Overlay Extender uses a specialized version of the Form Template Editor so therefore it behaves slightly differently compared to the form template editor of Smart Forms Extender. As a result of this, templates that were created in the Form Overlay Extender’s template editor are not available for Smart Forms Extender and vice-versa. However, it is possible to export template libraries from one editor and import it in the other using the same technique as described in the Form Template Editor section.

Another specialty of Form Overlay Extender’s template editor is that a template library can contain only one single page template or only one multi-page template. This limitation exists because otherwise it would not be obvious for ShareScan which pages should be inserted to the output document.

Anchor zones of the Form Template Editor are not used by Form Overlay Extender at all as they are necessary only for form recognition done by Smart Forms Extender.

Also, Form Template Editor test images are not used by Form Overlay Extender and all functions of the Test library ribbon group are not supported.

Insert page settings

Select from the list where the scanned page should be inserted by default:

  • Insert Before Scanned Page: The pages of the form template will be inserted as the first page of the output document.
  • Insert After Scanned Page: The pages of the form template will be inserted as the last page of the output document.

Select the User can specify page number check box to enable users to decide about the exact page number where the insertion should take place during the scanning procedure.
