Profile Tool

The Profile Tool allows you to manage connector, service profile information, watchers and Data Publishing maps between ShareScan Managers. You can export such information from a Manager, then start up another Manager, and import this information.

To access the tool, go to Administration Console > Advanced tab > Tools > Profile Tool.

If you plan to use the Profile Import / Export tool (Administration Console, Advanced Tab, Tools menu button / Profile Tool) when the system is configured to use Windows Integrated Authentication for database access, observe the following workarounds:

  1. Grant access for the user who runs the ShareScan Admin Console to the ShareScan database (typically eCopyShareScan) by given the same database permission as the ShareScan Agent windows service user has.

    or

  2. Make sure the eCopy database user installed by ShareScan (or an equivalent) exists on the SQL server. (Even if you want to disable the SQL Server authentication access, do not delete the eCopy user, but simply disable it, and re-enable it when you want to perform import / export via this feature).

Install ShareScan to a computer other than the production servers with the default database access credentials (eCopy user).

Do not modify the settings (connection string and service accounts) on this computer. With these, this dedicated computer can connect to the database and perform the profile import and export to the database.

To perform an export, do as follows:

  1. Start the Administration Console.
  2. Start the Profile Tool.
  3. Remain on the Export pane.
  4. Use the dropdown icons to browse to the connector, service, watcher or Data Publishing map, whose information you want to export.
  5. Right-click on the item of your selection.
  6. Select the export option (as appropriate).
  7. Browse to the location where you want to save the file. The generated file automatically has the .profile extension. Exported watchers show the .we extension, exported Data Publishing maps have the extension: .dme.

To perform an import, do as follows:

  1. Start the Administration Console.
  2. Start the Profile Tool.
  3. Switch to the Import pane.
  4. Click the Browse button to locate the profile file you want to import.
  5. Double-click the file to start the import process.

  • When you plan to export and then import profiles for such connectors that require a client software for proper functioning (such as document management systems, and so on) across different Manager machines, ensure that you have the relevant third-party software packages installed on the target Manager machine before importing. If you fail to do so, the import itself may be successful, but runtime errors will occur, since these connectors cannot function properly without their respective backend interface components.
  • Unlike connector profiles, newly imported watchers do not automatically overwrite watchers with the same name already existing on the target machine. (These imported watchers are created as new ones). To update a watcher via import, first you have to delete the current watcher (on the target machine) and then do the import.
  • If importing services.profile and connectors.profile at same time, do not modify the order of the service and connector profile. The service profile must be preceded by the connector profile in the 'processing order' list.
