Set up filter components

  1. On the Component toolbar, click Filter.

    The Filter window appears.

  2. On the list of filter types, click Filter.
  3. Click a filter option and drag it onto a View.

The Data window appears. Use this window to decide which dimension the Filter will focus on. You can select any dimension from a Translation table, Metric, Metric Group or Record to set as the Filter.

Click the filter component and select Data to reopen the Data window.

  4. On the Data tab, in the Dimension field, click the ellipsis Browse to search for a required dimension. Complete the Dimension and sorting details for your filter.
  5. On the Time tab, select a time interval, such as 10 Years.

Options include Current, Interval of, or Fixed time window.

    1. Select To current time, or define a start and end time for the filter.
  6. Select the Display tab and define the display options for the filter.
    1. In Selection Mode, define whether users can filter on one dimension value or multiple dimension values.

If Multiple selection is selected, define additional options as needed:

      • Show Search: Add a Search Panel to the Filter component to save time locating specific data in a large set of dimension values.

      • Display Set button: Enable CTRL-click to select multiple items, and Set to confirm a completed selection.

      • Display Groups button: Create and name groups of frequently used dimension values.

    2. In Display Mode, define how options appear. Options include whether users can filter on one dimension value or multiple dimension values.

Display options include Drop-down list, Panel, and Menu Style. You can further refine Menu style dimensions using options such as Horizontal, Vertical, and Keep items width.

    3. In Default Value, define the initial value for the filter.

      Valid options include:

      • No filter

      • First value

      • Last value

      • Use filter

      • Specific value

    4. In List Options, define how many items appear on a page, whether to include the No-Filter option, and what is written to the No-Filter text box.
  7. Click Styles to define the default appearance for the filter. On the list, select a style: Default style, Hover style, or Selected style.
  8. Select Action > Incoming Actions to define the Filter Group this filter listens to and is filtered by.
    1. Check one Filter Group, or multiple filter groups, as needed.
    2. Select The component should not display data, until one or several values are set on the dimension/field to restrict component availability until certain conditions are met.
    3. Use the drop-down list to select a special dimension.

Valid dimensions include Day, Hour, Minute, Month, Process ID, Quarter, Second, Week, and Year.

    4. The component should not display data, until the group has the active filter to restrict component availability until there is a filter in place to limit the data displayed.

This option is useful when a very large number of filter values exists.

  9. Select the Outgoing Actions tab and define the display options for the filter.
    • User Action: Defines valid user-actions for the chart. The response of the chart is determined by the following settings.

    • Use the value of the dimension as a filter: Enable filtering to other components.

For outgoing actions to influence a given component, the Filter Group must be the same for both components.

    • Pop up a window and display a view: Pop up a new View with its components filtered by the dimensions whenever the Filter component is used. Use this option to allow the user to navigate to other Views that you define.

While the new View is active, you cannot select elements from the old View.

      • Scoped By Dimension: Defines the filter dimension for all components in a View.

      • Window title and append selected value to title: Define a window title.

You can optionally append a specific value to the end of the title.

    • Apply scope to the components of a Group: Defines the Filter Group for the filter.

  10. Click OK.
