Add folder fields

Folder fields are a little different from class fields because the data expected in the folder fields is not always extracted from a document. The values in the document fields are usually used as criteria for creating the folders. For example, you can place all documents with the same customer ID in the same folder. In this case, you would then have as many folders in the batch as there are different customer IDs.

For folder fields you can either define a fixed value or use script to implement the folder field values or synchronize folder fields and Kofax Capture batch fields.

You can add folder fields by following these steps:

  1. Ensure that foldering is enabled for your project.
  2. Open the Project Tree window if it is not already open.
  3. In the Project Tree, select the added Project Folder Project Tree - Folder icon where you are adding the new folder field.

The selected Folder properties are displayed in the Details window.

  4. On the Ribbon Design tab, in the Create group, click Field.

You can add only a single folder per hierarchy level in the Project Tree.

Also, parent folder fields are passed down to child folders, but in contrast to normal document class fields, you cannot change the parent field content at the child level.

A new field is added to the list of folder fields for the selected folder, and its folder field properties are displayed in the Details window.

  5. Optionally, rename the folder field.
  6. Open the Details window if it is not already open.
  7. Optionally, add and configure the folder field properties for additional folder fields. There are several ways to populate folder fields:
    1. Define a fixed value by editing the folder field properties in the Details window as desired.
    2. Extract folder fields using script. For details see Automatically Creating Folders – Defined by Script.
    3. Using a value from Kofax Capture. For example, you can synchronize root level folder fields and Kofax Capture batch fields using the Synchronization Tool.
  8. Optionally, configure the validation form for your folder fields.
  9. Save the changes to your project.
