Export document definitions

You can export document definitions and then import them again.

This can be useful, for example if you want to export one or more document definitions, optimize them in a test system, and then re-import them into your production system. However, it is important to note, in this case, that database settings (master data, for example) must be similar for both systems. If you mix different formats, errors will occur or definitions will be duplicated.

Note exporting document profiles and associated objectsexporting document profiles and associated objects. In this procedure, only document definitions are exported. However, the entire document profile is included in the file for validation purposes.

Recommended: run a database maintenance plan before exporting document profiles and/or document definitions to receive a log of definitions that have error status (if there are any). These definitions are not included in the export, and there is no other way of knowing which ones they are after the export has been performed.

  1. Using Manager, click the Document profiles object bar.
  2. Right-click the document profile that you want to export definitions from and select Document definitions.
  3. Use your mouse to select the definition(s) that you want to export.
  4. Right-click the Document definitions list and select Export.
  5. Specify where you want to save the export file.
  6. Click Save.
